Adoption Process
Thinking about adopting?
Thanks for considering adoption! It’s a wonderful way to change a life—and not just the dog's, but yours too! Planning to fill out an application? Here’s what you can expect.
Step 1: Read Adoption FAQs
You must read our Adoption FAQs in full. They will likely answer most of your questions.
Step 2: Complete Adoption Application
The application is accessible in the bio of each available dog. You will have to create an account in order to apply. Click the link below to view our adoptable dogs.
Step 3: Adoption Coordinator Application Review
An adoption coordinator reviews your application, and checks with your veterinarian and the references listed in your application.
Step 4: Application Shared with Foster Family
If your application is approved, the adoption coordinator shares your application with the animal’s foster family.
Step 5: Foster Parent Interview
The foster will reach out to you to learn more about you and your life, answer your questions, and determine if the animal would be a good fit in your home.
Step 6: Set up Meet-and-Greet
You, the foster, and the pup will have a meet-and-greet to make sure it’s a good fit. It is expected you will take your new pup home the day of your meet-and-greet if you decide you want to adopt.
Step 9: You’re a Fur Parent!
Once the payment clears, you’ll be on your way with your new best friend. Your adoption documents will be emailed to you within 24-48 hours and also available in your adoption portal at AnimalsFirst.com that you create when applying.
Step 7: Contract
The contract link will be sent to you via text message ahead of time for you to review. Do not sign until you meet the pup and are sure you want to adopt!
Step 8: Day of Meet-and-Greet
If you decide you want to adopt you will reopen the contract using the original link sent out and once that is e-signed, a prompt for credit card payment will happen. (We only accept credit card payments)
